Founder Feature: David Pease of REKKIE

Meet David Pease.

Co-founder of REKKIE.

"The key is knowing when you are iterating on something that has potential, and never giving up."

REKKIE creates augmented reality goggles for action sports like skiing and paintball.

Q: What is a problem you're working to solve?

A: Groups getting lost or separated while skiing. Also helping ski patrol coordinate search and rescue efforts.

Q: What is a lesson you've learned that has shaped your work?

A: Recognizing that businesses and products are iterative projects. You're never done, it's never perfect. The key is knowing when you are iterating on something that has potential and never giving up.

Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?

A: Well, the exciting part for me is that no two days are exactly the same! But I'd say a typical day might look like: 8-9 am emails while drinking my morning cup of coffee. 10-noon weekly team meetings and meetings with 3rd party support folks (e.g., a website developer building a specific feature for one of our sites). 12:30 I meet an advisor or a supplier or potential customer for lunch at Skyline (or the National Exemplar). 1:30 I head over to our warehouse and help with any tricky orders that need to ship out. Then at night, I work on adding new products to the website or building our social media presence.

Q: What's your favorite place in Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky?

A: The Purple People Bridge! It's a great place to go on a run and the view is really nice.

Q: What’s one piece of advice would you give a young entrepreneur in Greater Cincinnati?

A: Meet other entrepreneurs. They have likely faced the exact challenge that kept you up last night. Along the same lines, make sure you have a couple of good advisors that you can look to when things get bumpy.
