Q: What makes Cincinnati a great place to start a business?
A: Cincinnati is the absolute best place to start a business! There is a vital and passionate community of entrepreneurs here and they inspire me every day. Small business owners are often very supportive of others who are trying to start their own thing. They are eager to share their experience and their knowledge with new business owners. Cincinnati also has a very visible and accessible support system for new businesses. There are a number of incubators, collectives, and other groups that are committed to providing training and connecting entrepreneurs to resources. We are so thankful for such an active support system in our home city.
Q: How did a grant from Main Street Ventures impact you and your business?
A: The Main Street Ventures Grant will add a huge boost to our growth efforts. The funds will allow us to hire a marketing team... [and] also allow us to expand our portfolio to include more unique flavors that our customers love to market.
Q: What’s a recent book, podcast, or news story that you found interesting?
A: We love listening to "How I Made This" and "Startup Therapy". There are so many interesting stories out there and so many different experiences. It often gives me hope that we can build Honey Child into the future business that we want it to be.
Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?
A: We are a family committed to trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite being waaaay too busy. We start the morning early with a workout or at-home yoga session (Sarah is also a certified yoga instructor) and healthy breakfast. After getting the kids to school Sarah is either in the commercial kitchen or in the office working on sales, accounting, or communications. Damien focuses on reaching out to business partners, defining the vision for the company, and working with our designers to create visuals for the company. The evening is full of kid activities and a home-cooked family meal. Then it's often a bit more office work until time to wind down.
Q: What's next for Honey Child Artisan Pops?
A: We want to share our love of deliciously healthy treats with the world. We hope to find our way into more stores throughout the midwest, finding new ways to innovate in frozen novelties and beyond.
